The Video Resume

Are you unsatisfied with your current resume? Maybe you don’t have a lot of experience, or maybe you’re just struggling to make it stand out. Maybe you’re applying at a fire and water restoration company that has tons of applicants pouring in, and you’re looking for a way to set yourself apart from the rest.  If this is you, have you ever considered doing a video resume? Video resumes are certainly not appropriate for everyone or for every industry, but there are instances when a video resume could help provide the competitive edge you need in order to land your dream job.

Video resumes offer many benefits. They allow a potential employer to learn more about you than they would in a traditional resume. Video resumes also take some of the focus off your work experience and focus more on your personality and skills. Additionally, video resumes stand out over traditional, paper resumes because they are memorable.

If you think a video resume might be right for you, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Keep it short. Resumes are only 1 page long. Your video resume should also be short. 1-2 minutes is a good timeframe.
  2. Make it fun, but keep it professional. One of the benefits to video resumes is that your personality can really shine through. However, your video should still be kept professional. It doesn’t have to be 100% serious, but be sure to stay on point and make every second count.
  3. Highlight the skills you possess that will improve the company. Video is a great way to demonstrate your knowledge and the value you can add to a company. This is something that is difficult to present on a traditional resume, which gives video resumes an advantage.

So what do you think? Are you ready to try out a video resume? If you’ve been thinking of revamping your resume, this may be the solution you need to catch that potential employers attention and land that interview for your dream job.
